The Cure are back in action!
The legendary band kicked off their world tour in Riga, Latvia last night with a 25 song show which included two encores and two brand new songs. From all accounts The Cure knocked it out of the park last night at Riga Arena.
The band premiered the songs "Alone" and "Endsong," which are presumably from the band's highly anticipated album Songs From The Lost World, which as of yet still does not have a release date.
From all accounts fans were enthralled with the new songs and especially loved the dark beauty. It's easy to see what Robert Smith was talking about when he described the Cure's new material as dark, relentless, and more like Disintegration than The Head On The Door. The songs are intense, long, and spiral down into the abyss of turmoil and emotion.
Speaking of Disintegration, fans also gave rave reviews to the setlist which was Disintegration-heavy setlist, however the Cure make it fantastic for their pop fans too; the final encore featured a battery of massive Cure hits.
In addition to the new songs and incredible show The Cure welcomed Perry Bamonte back to the band - Bamonte played guitar and keyboards with The Cure from 1990 through 2005 and is back now as part of the Cure's touring band. Don't worry - Roger O'Donnell is still with the band; Bamonte is in addition to the already incredible touring lineup.
