The The announced details for a new album.
The album is the official soundtrack to Muscle, the critically acclaimed feature film from Matt Johnson's brother Gerard Johnson. The film premiered at the London Film Festival last year and opened in theaters in the U.K. last week. The original soundtrack, which includes The The's new single "I Want 2 B U" and its b-side "Velvet Muscle Scream," is Volume 7 in The The's Cineola series.
The Muscle soundtrack will be released through The The's store December 12 and available in UK stores and online starting January 15th.
The The's webstore version is a deluxe edition of the soundtrack featuring a CD of the original music along with a hardback book with over 70 photo stills/pictures from the film, plus director notes from Gerard Johnson. Meanwhile The The announced an official bootleg series which will contain demos, live recordings, rough mixes, promo performances and more:
"Retrieved from tapes in our large and dusty archive each release will contain either demos, live recordings, rough mixes, interviews or promotional performances. Each volume is freshly digitised and mastered at Studio Cineola and burned onto our classic ‘vinyl’ CDs and encased in our vintage-style heavy card sleeve with hand-stamped numbering, debossed foil logos and a holographic stamp of authenticity. An accompanying PDF for each volume can be downloaded, printed, cut out and kept inside the respective sleeve. Due to the age and nature of these recordings certain imperfections and distortions may be audible at times."
The first bootleg in the series, Official Bootleg - Volume 001, was recorded in New York in the 90s and contains demos and rough mixes of tracks from the Gun Sluts album sessions. According to The The's website, someone obtained a copy of these recordings and has been selling them for big bucks (ripping off fans) on ebay. The The decided to master the recordings for an improved audio experience and officially release them so fans could enjoy them.
