Cabaret Voltaire announced a new album Shadow Of Fear.
The album is the band's first record in over 20 years. Cabaret Voltaire is now essentially Richard H Kirk's solo project - this is the first Cabs release to feature Kirk as the sole member of the band.
Kirk utilized old equipment to record the album - though he considered updating to digital, he had a computer breakdown which forced him to rethink things and ultimately he decided to retain his original equipment. According to Kirk making this album reminded him of the old days with Cabaret Voltaire because there wasn’t that much equipment, "so you really had to use your imagination." The artwork is also reminiscent of classic Cabaret Voltaire releases.
Kirk feels it's important to acknowledge the past, but "it’s a dangerous place to dwell," so despite using old equipment the music sounds fresh and new. Shadow Of Fear has been described by Mute as "an album that defies categorisation...a voyage through the history of electronic music that arrives at a new destination."
The eight album track arrives November 20th and is available to pre-order. Stream "Vasto," the first offering from Shadow Of Fear below and head here to view the pre-order options.
