Swervedriver announced plans to release the original version of their debut EP, Son Of Mustang Ford.
The material was recorded in April of 1990 at House In The Woods studio in Surrey. As it turned out Alan McGee of Creation wasn't completely happy with the EP and suggested Swervedriver re-record it, which they did later that year in London. The re-recorded version was issued as Son Of Mustang Ford EP in July of 1990, and the original unreleased version of the EP stayed in Swervedriver's archive. Now, 30 years later Swervedriver announced plans to release it.
According to Swervedriver:
"We were actually never that enamoured with the sound of the final re-recorded EP that came out on Creation but McGee had made the correct call and the record that came out did have the required ‘X Factor’ that led us towards the first recording we were truly happy with - the Rave Down EP that followed in November of 1991 - and everything that followed after."
The original version of the record has been renamed Petroleum Spirit Daze and the four songs contained within were remastered earlier this year by Tim Turan, who originally recorded the material in 1990.
Petroleum Spirit Daze will be issued as a limited edition 12" record and is available to pre-order here and is expected to ship on October 1st.
FYI: The EP has been limited to 500 copies and is selling fast, so do not delay if you are interested!
