Guitarist/songwriter David Roback has died.
Roback was best known for his work in Mazzy Star, a band that rose to fame in the 90s but originally got its start as the band Opal. Roback changed up the lineup and changed the name to Mazzy Star, co-wrote all of their material alongside Hope Sandoval, and produced all four of their studio albums as well as their 2018 EP Still. Prior to forming Opal/Mazzy Star Roback was an integral member of the 80s psychedelic Paisley Underground scene as a founding member of influential and highly underrated band Rain Parade.
Roback died February 25th at the age of 61. His death was confirmed by his representative, however no cause of death has been announced announced.
Update: David's mother, Rosemary Roback, revealed to the New York Times that David died from cancer.
R.I.P. David Roback, an unsung hero of alternative and psychedelic music.
