Ummagma return with a compelling, extraordinary new single and news of their highly anticipated third album.
Alexander Kretov & Shauna McLarnon have been making enthralling music together as Ummagma since 2003. It's been seven years since we've last had a full length release, though the ethereal and mystifying Ukranian/Canadian duo have released other magnificent works including (but certainly not limited to) 2017's four song EP LCD.
Ummagma's music is a special brand of beautiful - their works have attracted the attention of many luminaries from the shoegaze/indie alternative world which led to intriguing collaborations with Dean Garcia, Robin Guthrie, A.R. Kane, Malcolm Holmes (OMD), Graham Bonnar (Swervedriver), and more.
The band will unleash their sure-to-be fantastic new album Compass on June 21st. The album includes the previously released one-off tracks "LCD" and "Galacticon" along with loads of brand new material. The 12 track album is preceded by the single "Caravan" which features another helping of McLarnon's utterly elegant, exquisite vocals.
McLarnon says of the single:
"Caravan is about a personal journey - one that begins in the mind before any borders have even been crossed. he trip is so much better when you truly want to be part of it. You map your own destiny in many ways and dreaming is a great place to begin."
The single's b-side "Ty i Ya" is a groovy track featuring Kretov singing in Ukrainian.
The "Caravan" single arrives on May 8th and is available to pre-order here and the pre-order for the full album Compass is here. Stream "Caravan" below along with Ummagma's brilliant Eno-esque instrumental "Galacticon." [The video for "Galacticon" features stunning aerial footage of Kremenets, Ukraine shot by Kretov and Anatoly Lukaschuk.]
