Fans of the band Japan: Anthony Reynolds has written an exciting new book chronicling the solo careers of the legendary band's former members. Cries And Whispers 1983 - 1991 explores the adventures of David Sylvian, Richard Barbieri, Rob Dean, Steve Jansen, and Mick Karn from December 1982 through 1991 -- a period that covers Sylvian's early solo work, Sylvian's collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Can's Holger Czukay; the projects Dalis Car, The Dolphin Brothers, Rain Tree Crow, and more.
The 212 page book also features commentary/contributions from Ivo Watts Russell, Johnny Marr, Simon Raymonde, Thomas Dolby, Bill Nelson and more, plus includes over 200 photos, many of which are rare and previously unseen/unpublished.
Cries And Whispers 1983 - 1991 will be released on April 5th and is available to pre-order here.
This should be a fantastic read. Cries And Whispers is the hotly anticipated follow up to A Foreign Place -- Reynolds' critically acclaimed 2015 biography on Japan. Reynolds' essential writings on Japan come from the heart -- he is a massive fan of the influential group:
"Is it shameful to be 40 something and still have a 'favourite band'? If so, colour me shamed. Japan are my favourite band and as a fan I wanted to write and publish books on them that would enrapture and delight the fan in me. I hope I've done so, matching Style with content and mystery with beauty."
