Wire announced today that limited quantities of their singles box set Nine Sevens are available to purchase through their webstore. The limited edition box set collects nine 7" singles originally released from 1977 through 1980. Nine Sevens was released this spring for Record Store Day in the U.K. and was a fast mover. Interested fans can obtain a copy here while supplies last.
Wire also revealed that they're creating an official visual documentary celebrating their history. The documentary has been described as "a film about Wire by Wire" and will tell the true story that needs to be told:
"Our feelings are that there is so much bad and inaccurate music-based documentary out there that it makes sense to have something more in tune with the multi-stranded reality of Wire, past and present, than these affairs tend to be. We have enlisted the help of old friends, experienced programme makers, and serious Wire fans Graham Duff and Malcom Boyle."
The project is in the early stages though they will be creating a trailer for the film soon in hopes of attracting financial backing. They're still working on how to finance the film and may opt to launch a Kickstarter (or other crowdfunding) campaign in the future. Wire call the documentary an "ongoing" project and won't be completed for some time.
Lastly, Wire return to the studio in September to record their 17th studio album. The anticipated release date is early 2020.
