The The returned to the stage for their first live show in 18 years this evening. The sold out show took place at Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, England and featured a phenomenal setlist. It should go without saying, but fans online (and legendary director Tim Pope, who was in attendance) have confirmed that The The sounded majestic and glorious. The show must have been especially emotional and compelling during the performance of "We Can't Stop What's Coming," "Phantom Walls," and "Love Is Stronger Than Death" - the three songs Matt Johnson wrote following the death of his mother and two brothers were performed tonight in succession.

The The kick off the North American leg of their tour in September. Meanwhile, the band's first authorized biography Long Shadows, High Hopes: The Life and Times of Matt Johnson and The The will be published June 6th.
