The legendary Rob Gretton died on this day in 1999 from a heart attack at the age of 46. Besides being the manager for Joy Division and New Order, Gretton was a key player in Factory Records and was a founding member of The Hacienda.
R.I.P.
It would have been Rob's 65th birthday yesterday. Here's a photo I took of him at Danceteria in NYC in July 83 wearing one of DJ Johnny Dynell's erm, outfits ... @joydivision @neworder #RobGretton pic.twitter.com/YTQTeQYvYs— Kevin Cummins (@KCMANC) January 16, 2018
Me and Rob Gretton, two young mods in Manchester, 1969. Long before Joy Division and New Order and all that good stuff. We'd hitched to Coventry to watch City and met two girls, so we had this photbooth shot done to send to them. Fresh faced boys ... Rob would’ve turned 65 today. pic.twitter.com/LUP3A98jsB— Steve McGarry (@SteveMcGarry) January 15, 2018
