Richard Ashcroft took aim at Noel Gallagher onstage at his show in Los Angeles last weekend. Before launching into "Bittersweet Symphony" Ashcroft made a sarcastic reference to having a "team of songwriters" then did an impression of Noel and declared "I can't wait to fucking run into you."

UPDATE (5/19): Richard Ashcroft expressed love and support for Noel Gallagher and has "no beef" with any musician.
I was talking about Klein jnr at Central Park I have no beef with any musician! Noel G has written some of my favourite songs long may he continue I wish him all the luck in the world RA— Richard Ashcroft (@richardashcroft) May 19, 2018
Ashcroft's ire stems from comments Noel made during an interview at the end of last year when he appeared on the Sodajerker podcast and was asked about songwriting. The discussion led him to go on a rant about songwriting and collaborations, claiming Johnny Marr and Paul Weller were the only solo artists Britain (besides himself) that don't use a team of songwriters. Then Noel called out a few artists including Ashcroft:
"Ashcroft, Our Kid (aka Liam Gallagher), all the way to fucking Ed Sheeran and any other cunt you can fucking -- the little fella out of One Direction, they’ve all got an army of songwriters behind them."
Noel's comments about Ashcroft were shocking since he writes his own material and/or has collaborated with other members of The Verve. Certainly writing with your bandmates isn't quite the same level as having a team of songwriters! Besides being wholly untrue, Noel's comments were also disappointing since he's been friends with Ashcroft for years - Oasis opened up for The Verve back in the day, they've hung out together, and in recent years they've both expressed interest in collaborating together at some point. Noel has even previously proclaimed Ashcroft a genius:
I don’t write my own songs? You want to qualify that NG— Richard Ashcroft (@richardashcroft) January 12, 2018
