Johnny Marr returns with his third solo album Call The Comet on June 15th. He's previously issued the song "The Tracer" and now he's premiered the highly anticipated single and video for "Hi Hello." Aside from being more Marr material to sink into, part of the feverish longing to hear this particular single is because the legend previously told Uncut that "Hi Hello" reminds him of The Smiths' classic "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out":
"When I did the string part, I was aware that it sounded like "Dancing Barefoot" by Patti Smith, but I think it also sounds like The Smiths "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out." "I don't do that very often."
"Hi Hello" is an undeniably glorious slice of songwriting mastery. Envelop yourself in Marr's masterful and elegant guitar work in the video below. Stunning.
Marr has previously described Call The Comet as "emotional," "out there," and "dramatic," with "deeper" lyrics. The album's press release describes the album as "set in the not too distant future" and is "mostly concerned with the idea of an alternative society." Call The Comet features 12 songs and arrives on June 15th. Check out the pre-order options here.
