Johnny Marr talks 'Call The Comet' in new interview

Johnny Marr is preparing to release his third studio album Call The Comet later this year. Marr previously described the album as "out there," "dramatic," and "emotional," and now he's offered up a few more nuggets about the record. In a new interview with Uncut he revealed that the big challenge to writing the record was the current global political climate. He did his best to not let politics hamper his creativity, but it was a challenge to rise above it and make the best record he possibly could under the circumstances:

“I almost had to make a pact with myself to get around the political issue, so that my record wouldn’t be spoilt by it. The best thing I can do is let the people who are interested in me know that I’m still one of the good guys; that I’m feeling it with them."

Asked to shared his thoughts on Morrissey's political views, he said "I never thought about that. I have other concerns," and he also revealed that he predicts an alternate society will emerge in the future with compassion and love for people and animals.

The full interview was published in the latest issue of Uncut which hit newstands this week. An excerpt from the interview is available to view here.

Call The Comet will be released later this year. An official release date has not yet been announced.
