A new documentary about Depeche Mode premiered this weekend on German TV.
Depeche Mode und die DDR: Just Can't Get Enough is an hour and a half documentary marking the 30th anniversary of Depeche Mode's historical concert in East Berlin. Depeche Mode played Werner Seelenbinder Hall on March 7th, 1988 as part of the Music For The Masses tour and was one of few concerts that would take place in communist East Germany/DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) aka GDR, (German Democratic Republic). This film examines Depeche Mode's history, the organization of this historic concert, and how Depeche Mode's enchanting music knew no boundaries - Depeche Mode were universally loved and considered a symbol of freedom on both sides of the Berlin wall.
Now for the bad news: Though the film is entirely free to watch, it is in German and there are no English subtitles. The good news: admittedly the lack of translation curtails the documentary's impact and message, however despite the language barrier the film is worth watching for the rare archival footage and previously unseen photos from the 80s.
