Kirsty MacColl died on this day in 2000. Over the course of her remarkable career she wrote and released brilliant music, and collaborated with and/or guested on songs from The Smiths, Billy Bragg, The Pogues, Talking Heads, Alison Moyet, Happy Mondays, and many more.
The 2001 documentary Kirsty: The Life and Songs of Kirsty MacColl is a fantastic overview of her life and career along with commentary from Johnny Marr, Shane MacGowan, Bono, Billy Bragg, and more. Among the highlights: Johnny Marr tells a story about hanging out with MacColl and Keith Richards, and Bono reveals MacColl was the one who sequenced (created the tracklisting for) The Joshua Tree.
