Noel Gallagher debuted his scissors player last week on Later...With Jools Holland, and now he has explained how the unique addition to his live show came about. In an interview with i-D he revealed that he originally asked the French musician to play the tambourine, and things escalated from there:
"She’s French and she’s eccentric to say the least. I said to her, ‘can you play the tambourine?’, She said, ‘I cannot play the tambourine.’ I said, ‘Oh right. Shaker?’ ‘Non. I can play the scissors.’ She brought them in and I was looking at my bass player going, if that’s not the greatest thing you’ve ever seen then tell me what is. A French bird in a cape playing the scissors? It doesn’t get any better than that does it?"
For the record, the scissors-player (Noel didn't reveal her name) also provides some spoken-word vocals and megaphone action in addition to playing scissors. Watch the action in the video below:
Meanwhile, in the same i-D interview Noel discussed his new album calling it "rock and roll" and opined about the spirit of rock and roll:
"For me, it’s freedom to do what the fucking hell you want. I’m not owned by anybody. I’m not owned by the whims of a fan base or the bank balance of a record company. I do what I want when I want to do it. And I live and die by the consequences."
Of course it wouldn't be an interview if he wasn't asked about his brother Liam. Noel was asked to comment on Liam's album As You Were and his infamous twitter jabs. Noel said though the music wasn't for him he initially supported Liam and his new project, but after Liam started going after him personally Noel's good will vanished:
"I think at the beginning, from this side of the fence, there was a lot of good will as in, yeah, man, I fucking hope it works. It’s about time. But that’s all gone now because it got personal. So it’s like, fuck what he does. As long as he keeps promoting my record, there’s a good boy.”
