Morrissey biopic 'England Is Mine' trailer
The Morrissey biopic England Is Mine is set to premiere July 2nd as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival. The film is set in the 1970s and tells the story of Morrissey's early days, ambition, and struggle which famously led to him becoming one of the most iconic musicians of all time. The film was directed by Mark Gill and stars Jack Lowden as Morrissey.
Morrissey did not participate in the unauthorized biopic and previously revealed:
"I know nothing about it. I wasn’t consulted, so they obviously didn’t want my clarity to muddle up their perspective of how things were, or are, or should be."
The film opens in the U.K. on August 4th. A North American premiere has not yet been announced. Watch the trailer below:

New Order kick off wall-of-synth shows at Manchester International Festival
New Order kicked off their series of six mega-synthed out shows at the Old Grenada Studios tonight as part of the Manchester International Festival. The extraordinary gigs feature the legendary New Order backed by a 12 person wall-of-synth ensemble from the Royal Northern College Of Music with orchestrations conducted by Joe Duddell and visuals provided by Liam Gillick.
According to fans in attendance, tonight's show was nothing less than stunning. The synth players were set up behind the band in a wall of individual cubes, almost Hollywood Squares-style. The drool-worthy set list was phenomenal -- they dusted off Technique's "Dream Attack," and "Vanishing Point," and WOW, even "All Day Long" from Brotherhood! Other highlights: "Elegia," "Your Silent Face," "Subculture," and a pair of Joy Division songs.
View some fan-filmed snippets, pictures, and the full set list are available to view below. Post will be updated with more video when available.
CAUTION: SOME OF THE VIDEO INCLUDES FLASHING LIGHTS/STROBES.

The Telescopes prep LP 'As Light Return'
The Telescopes are back with a new album titled As Light Return July 7th. The album is the band's first since 2015's Hidden Fields, and their ninth album overall. The fuzz-noise/shoegazers say they're focused and in a comfortable creative place now, which wasn't quite the case in the 90s according to leader Stephen Lawrie:
"I found myself in a position in the early 90s where the main concern everyone around me had was whether or not the next song I wrote was a hit. Looking back now it’s obvious The Telescopes were never going to be that kind of a deal, but at the time it was a severe distraction that took a long while to shake off. I have learned more about keeping sight of the things that inspired me to create in the first place and not to compromise them in any way."
Stream the new single "You Can't Reach What You Hunger" off of As Light Return below. The album arrives July 14th in North America and is available to pre-order here.

Ministry prep 14th studio LP + Uncle Al pledging exclusives
Ministry announced the release of a new studio album titled Amerikkkant. The band's 14th studio album will feature guests DJ Swamp (Beck), Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory), Arabian Prince (NWA), and Lord of the Cello. The official release date has not been announced, but according to Ministry it will be out this fall (vinyl format will be released early 2018) with a new single on the way shortly (Ministry debuted the live version of the new song "Antifa" at recent live shows which may or may not turn out to be the album's first single).
Al Jourgensen launched a campaign for Amerikkkant through Pledge Music and there are several pre-order options/pledging exclusives available. Many of the exclusives are relatively standard for music campaigns (signed merchandise, pledgers name listed in the album credits, test pressings, etc), but there are also several intriguing exclusives for Ministry fans. For instance:
For $250 Al Jourgensen will play Happy Birthday on harmonica and record a special message for the birthday recipient! Here's a picture of Al's harmonica, btw:
For $10,000 Uncle Al will remix one of your songs:
"Send your song to Al, and he will put the apply his years of studio wisdom to the mix and add finishing touches to give it that Ministry sound."
And for $300 Al will personally handwrite out the lyrics to a Ministry song of your choice. BUT, be warned -- as you might have guessed, he isn't willing to write lyrics to certain songs for ANY price:
"A song of your choice written out by hand! Note Songs from “With Sympathy” are not eligible."
View all of the pledging options here.
Ministry have a handful of live dates planned for later this year. Their tour will include a stop in Chicago for day 1 of Riot Fest. The September 15th date is headlined by Nine Inch Nails and include sets from New Order, Buzzcocks, X, The Cribs, and Death From Above. Get details and tickets here.

The The's Matt Johnson talks 'The Inertia Variations' + more in new interview
The The's new documentary The Inertia Variations is being screened this week at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and in promotion of the screenings, Matt Johnson appeared on BBC Radio 6 program Radcliffe and Maconie for a short interview. Much of the interview focused on Johnson discussing his struggles with depression and grief after the loss of two of his brothers and his mother. Johnson talked about giving up music for awhile because it felt irrelevant when there were deeper issues to tend to and certainly put life into perspective for him.
Johnson reveals that his passion for music is back and says he was heartened by the huge response to his new single "We Can't Stop What's Coming" -- The The's first new single in 15 years -- and is thankful to all the fans who reached out to him and sent letters/emails in support.
In response to being asked if he's working on a new album and if he'd consider touring again, Johnson replied that he has started working on some new songs, however due to his current focus on coordinating the release and screenings of The Inertia Variations he hasn't finished any new material yet. As for touring he was a little hesitant to say he would tour, though he considers it a possibility someday and said "never say never."
Screenings of The Inertia Variations are planned for later this year in England, however he did not mention anything about North America screenings.
Stream the interview here.
The The's single "We Can't Stop What's Coming" was repressed on white vinyl and is available here. The video for the single is posted below.

The Church debut new single ahead of North American tour
The Church have been busy working on a new studio album. The forthcoming record is their first since 2014's Further Deeper and their 26th studio album overall. A release date has not been announced and the album is currently untitled, however The Church premiered the first taste of the album this week ahead of their North American tour.
The new single is titled "Another Century" and it's a gorgeous slice of Church heaven. Steve Kilbey describes the track as "a romantic melodic stab of omnichord and guitars and quite unlike any past church song. The lyrics fell out of the sky very quickly and the music is dreamy and evocative of past futures."

The Stone Roses' reunion reportedly over
It appears the Stone Roses reunion is over. The band just wrapped up a string of shows in the U.K. last night, however since the tour began rumors were swirling that Saturday night's show in Glasgow would be their swansong due to escalating tension in the band and Ian Brown's desire to rekindle his solo career. Though the band didn't confirm a split through an official announcement, at last night's show, Brown implied as much by reportedly telling the crowd "don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened."
The Stone Roses originally broke up in 1996 but after years of insisting they wouldn't reunite, they surprised the world by doing just that in 2011. Since reuniting they've played countless MASSIVE headline shows overseas. Though the crowd response was predictably tepid stateside (particularly at their U.S. Coachella appearances in 2013), the rest of the world recognizes the Stone Roses to be a legendary and iconic band.
Props to the Stone Roses for a wildly successful reunion and incredible career.

Liam Gallagher sets release for 'As You Were' + unveils cover art
Liam Gallagher has unveiled the cover art for his full length debut solo album As You Were. The album will be released October 6th and will be available to pre-order at midnight.
Meanwhile Gallagher was interviewed by music journalist John Dolan for his video series British Masters. Like brother Noel, Liam is a fantastic interview and provides tons entertainment and laughs. Dolan, who is a seasoned journalist and uber music fan, ends the interview by asking "the burning question that everyone wants to know." Nope, didn't ask about Oasis reuniting, but instead asked Liam how to cook a potato. Good times. View below.
"I see myself as one of the fucking true great rock and roll singers on the planet without a doubt. [I'm] certainly better than Johnny Marr and better than John Lydon."

Mark Lanegan has been on tour in Europe in support of his new album Gargoyle. As previously reported, Lanegan has been performing Joy Division covers at his recent shows. Last night the tour rolled through the O2 Ritz in Manchester and Lanegan brought out a special guest for the encore -- the one and only Peter Hook. The bass legend joined Lanegan and ripped through "Atmosphere" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart."

Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval pays tribute to drummer Keith Mitchell
Mazzy Star's drummer Keith Mitchell passed away suddenly last month. Over the weekend, many musicians and artists gathered together to celebrate his memory. Hope Sandoval also took to Facebook last night to post some loving words and memories she had of Mitchell:
"Keith and I took many road trips to Berkeley CA in the late 80s together. We recorded a lot of Mazzy Star's music there. He would pick me up in his little Datsun station wagon car, jam-packed with his drum kit and various other percussive instruments.
Keith had superb taste in music and a vast collection of well known and obscure artists. He would always bring a batch of cassettes with interesting sounds along with him. I remember the fist time I heard 'Can,' it was in Keith's car driving along the 5. Their sound was strange wild and beautiful, all at the same time. Keith always had an introduction before he'd play something, the first time he played me Leonard Cohen he said; "this music has the best backing vocals ever!"
Keith absolutely loved Tom Waits and played him every trip, the first few times I would say to Keith; "Oh no, not him, his voice is too drunk and scratchy sounding," and Keith would say; "you have to listen to the music and his words, then you'll be hooked!" Of course it wasn't long before I'd get into his car and request the man with the scratchy voice.
So much great music and company on all those Northern California drives... Thank you Keith for all the inspiration, elevation, communication, levitation, education, intoxication and reverberation. I'll always have and keep you in my heart and soul."

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark live session
Last week Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark appeared at the BBC Music 6 studios in Liverpool for a live session. As the session took place on BBC Music Day, Andrew McCluskey and Paul Humphreys were asked about Factory Records, which released their debut single "Electricity" after getting wind of them at their first show in 1978 opening for Joy Division. OMD spoke fondly of Factory and shared a story about going to the label's headquarters and finding out they themselves had to physically place the "Electricity" vinyl into the sleeves.
OMD also briefly discussed their forthcoming album The Punishment Of Luxury before performing a three song set, which included the first live performance of the new single "Isotype" along with classics "Enola Gay" and "Electricity." McCluskey dedicated "Electricity" to his dying mother and shared a story about how she inspired him to pursue music.
Stream the archive of the full session here.

The The launch 'festival within a festival'
The The are launching a festival within a festival on June 21st in Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Film Festival takes place June 21st through July 2nd and features over 300 films and media presentations. As part of this year's event, The The will present special screenings of the brand new documentary The Inertia Variations, along with Infected - The Movie, plus after the screenings Matt Johnson will participate in a special Q & A session. Additionally two films directed by Matt's brother Gerard Johnson -- Tony, and Hyena -- are also scheduled to be a part of The The's mini-festival. For more info on the Edinburgh Film Festival visit the festival's site here.
So far North American screenings for The Inertia Variations have not been announced.
The The's new first new single in 15 years is titled "We Can't Stop What's Coming" and is featured in The Inertia Variations. The track was released as a limited edition 7" single for Record Store Day and later as a digital single on iTunes. Due to overwhelming demand, The The recently greenlit a second pressing of the 7" on white vinyl (V2) which is available to purchase here.
"We Can't Stop What's Coming" was written as a tribute to Matt's brother Andrew, who passed away in January 2016. Fifty percent of the profits from website sales of V2 will be donated to St Nicholas Hospice Suffolk, the hospice center that cared for Andrew in his final days.

The Smiths mark anniversary of 'The Queen Is Dead' with 12" & picture disc
As reported last week, The Smiths have released "The Queen Is Dead" as a 12" single and 7" picture disc today. The limited edition vinyl releases mark the anniversary of the full length album The Queen Is Dead, which was released June 16th, 1986.
The 12" single is backed with three previously released instrumental tracks "Oscillate Wildly," "Money Changes Everything," and "The Draize Train"; the 7" picture disc is backed with the rarity "I Keep Mine Hidden." Both releases are available now exclusively in HMV record shops. View the announcement from the Smiths here.
Morrissey previously revealed that he was hoping to reissue TQID for its 30th anniversary last year, but was shot down by Warner Brothers. Read part of his May 2016 statement:
"I am sorry that Warner UK or Sire US cannot provide any celebrations for the anniversaries of both recordings, but, perhaps some label bosses have their eye on a tatty OBE, and perhaps others simply have detachable heads. It would not quite be the Smiths if not classically ignored by the dried-out lawns of the establishment. I urged Warner UK to issue a special 'The Queen Is Dead' single release for the first week of June ... but ... brick wall."
Moz didn't issue a statement about today's releases but posted a short teaser video on Facebook. View below.
UPDATE (6/17): Morrissey has now posted some comments and is annoyed over HMV's "one copy per customer" sticker and calls the sticker "an attempt to freeze sales" and "an overwhelming insult to the Smiths." Read his statement here.
