Darius Minwalla, drummer of the Posies died at his home in Vancouver, BC on May 20th. The band confirmed the news on their website with the following statement:
"We cannot put off this announcement, as much as we wish to: our dear friend and drummer for the last 14 years, Darius Minwalla, died yesterday. Causes yet unknown. He was at home. He was loved very much by many people; we’re still struggling to cope with the loss. I was dealing with it yesterday, hoping the news was some kind of cruel prank, but alas, no. We love you, buddy."
Minwalla was 39 years old.
UPDATE: 6/6/15:
Minwalla had been scheduled to hit the road with Hugh Cornwell (former leader/founder of the Stranglers). Cornwell was interviewed by the mag the Stranger and had some wonderful things to say about Minwalla.
"I'll tell you what: He really included people. This became clear to me when we went around America touring, because he really knew a lot of people. He had great friends, and he wanted me to know them, and them to know me. He brought people together. That's a really, really lovely quality. Not everybody has it...I'm gonna dedicate a song to him wherever we go. When we hit the stage, I'm gonna be playing my heart out for him. He's not forgotten."
