Prior to the release of Noel Gallagher's first solo album in 2011, Gallagher held a press conference to announce details. During the event, Gallagher mentioned that he'd be releasing a proper solo album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, as well as another record; a trippy, experimental sounding record he'd recorded with Amorphous Androgynous.  Gallagher described the second album as, "fucking far out...it's vaudeville, some of it's space jazz, krautrock, some of it's soul, some of it's funk...it's the furthest out I've ever been, that's for sure."   Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds went on to be released in November of that year, however his collaboration with AA never got released (other than the "Dream On" b-side "Shoot A Hole In The Sun" which saw light of day in 2012). UK paper The Guardian sought to find out more about what went down between Gallagher and the spacey psychedelic remix outfit -- and they got answers, well, at least Amorphous Androgynous' side of the story.

Garry Cobain of AA spoke in detail to the Guardian about what went down -- Cobain revealed that he began discussing working on Gallagher's solo album before Oasis split in 2009 (a revelation that took Liam Gallagher by surprise). As Cobain tells it, he was thrilled to work with Gallagher and was expecting creatively proggy, psychedelic, experimental sessions to follow, but unfortunately he claims that was not the case.  He reveals though Gallagher really loves proggy psychedelic music, he just wasn't able to let himself go wild enough to write experimental, liberating music. Gallagher nor AA were happy with the mixes they recorded and even though they attempted to record again, the magic just wasn't there. Cobain concluded the failure of the collaboration was due to Gallagher ultimately being "too afraid to be weird."

Read the full interview with Cobain here.

Interestingly enough, two backing tracks Amorphous Androgynous created during those scrapped sessions -- the critically acclaimed song "The Right Stuff" and "The Mexican" -- made it onto Gallagher's new solo album Chasing Yesterday.
