Morrissey cancels TV gig; announces "Kiss Me A Lot" single

Morrissey's appearance on the Alan Carr: Chatty Man program which was scheduled for March 27th has been canceled, reportedly because Morrissey is "stuck in Belfast." Apparently Morrissey is having "transport issues" and cannot make it for the show's taping (the show was scheduled to tape earlier today). Carr himself announced the news on Twitter:

Meanwhile, Morrissey upset some fans at his show in Belfast after he made fun of the late Margaret Thatcher. Moz sang "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" while projecting a few pics of Thatcher on the screen, and later made some barbs about Queen Elizabeth. It's hard to imagine anyone attending a Morrissey show would be set off by this, considering it's par for the course at his shows, but whatever. Read more about the Belfast gig here.

Morrissey also announced he's releasing "Kiss Me A Lot" as a digital single tomorrow. The song appeared on 2014's World Peace Is None Of Your Business, and shortly after the record's release, Morrissey and label Harvest Records parted ways.  Though Moz is reportedly still without a label deal, and even though he's not listed on the artist roster for Atom Factory, he credits the Los Angeles based entertainment/artist management company for assisting with the "Kiss Me A Lot" digital release. The single will be available on iTunes (and presumably other digital outlets) tomorrow. Morrissey's official statement on the matter is posted below via True To You:

"I humbly ask for all and any support with this download release, which, has always been waiting in the wings if not for unpleasant circumstances familiar enough not to be repeated here. Thank you to Atom Factory for making this happen, and here's to sound reason, good times, and music that matters."

Mark Gardener/Robin Guthrie release brilliant collaborative LP 'Universal Road'

Mark Gardener (Ride) and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) released their highly anticipated collaborative album Universal Road this week. The two shoegaze titans previously released a single titled "The Places We Go" in 2012 and not long after the pair recorded a full 10 track album. Though the release was delayed due to several other projects Guthrie was working on, the album is finally out and was unquestionably worth the wait. Universal Road is indeed a masterpiece!  The songs are alluring, elegant and breathtaking. Gardener's rich and soothing voice pairs perfectly with Guthrie's flowing, graceful guitars, resulting in one fantastic album.

Universal Road was released this week through Soleil Après Minuit and is available to purchase through iTunes, Amazon, and Robin Guthrie's website. The tracklisting is posted below along with footage of Gardener and Guthrie performing "Dice" captured live at their February 2013 show in London.

Dead Electric release swoon-worthy new LP 'A11 S1x Num63r5'

Glasgow's Dead Electric return with an excellent new album titled A11 S1x Num63r5. The album is full of fuzzy, propulsive guitars that would delight any shoegaze fan, especially those who dig Swervedriver. That being said, A11 S1x Num63r5 isn't only for shoegazers -- the brilliant and diverse album also includes plenty of guitary Sonic Youth/Dinosaur Jr. moments, plus a few beautiful piano-based songs ("Maya" and "1992") that would fit in nicely on a Bon Iver album. Johnny Marr announced he's releasing a 7" single on April 18th.  The A side is Marr's cover of "I Feel You" (Depeche Mode) which will be backed with a live recording of the Smiths' classic "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want." Marr began covering "I Feel You" at his live shows last  December and told XFM that he's pleased with how the studio recording turned out:

"When you cover a song you have to bring something of yourself to it. I've surprised myself that it sounded so like me and my band. The song turned out surprisingly well. We managed to put our own twist on it and I think, make it modern."

Meanwhile, on Monday night Johnny Marr joined Noel Gallagher on stage last night at Gallagher's show in Manchester. The two performed their collaborative track "Ballad Of The Mighty I," which appears on Gallagher's new album Chasing Yesterday.

You might recall that last fall Gallagher joined Marr onstage at Marr's gig in Brixton. Gallagher later revealed to NME "I don't think I've ever been so fucking hungover onstage as I was that night." In the same interview he also commented "I'd never played 'Lust For Life' before. You forget that you know all the words to it. 'How Soon Is Now' drags on a bit though, doesn't it?"
