John Lydon releases his autobiography, Anger is an Energy: My Life Uncensored, on October 9th. Ahead of the release, Lydon spoke with The Star about his memoir.
Most fans already are likely quite familiar with Lydon's lyric "anger is an energy" from Public Image Limited's classic song "Rise," however, many fans may not know the story behind that famous lyric. Lydon revealed in the interview that when he was seven years old he suffered complete memory loss and inability to read and write due to complications from meningitis. According to Lydon's account, doctors instructed his parents to "keep him angry" in order to help him regain his memory. Though his memory was eventually restored, he said the entire process was long and left him angry -- his anger became an energy which helped stoke the flames of the Sex Pistols in years to come.
