The
BBC is reporting that a ceiling inside Manchester's
Factory 251 nightclub collapsed in the early hours (2:30 AM) of February 7th. According to the report, plasterboard on the second floor ceiling gave way and debris from the collapse injured several patrons at the club. The seven injured clubgoers were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries. After the incident the venue was evacuated and shut down for the evening, but
reopened for business later in the day after passing inspection. Factory 251 is the club located inside the old headquarters of the legendary Factory Records and is owned in part by
Peter Hook.
A venue in Chicago reported a similar ceiling-collapse over the weekend. A ceiling at
Concord Music Hall reportedly caved in and fell on concertgoers during a
Datsik show on February 8th. Witnesses claim the bass at the concert was so loud it shook part of the ceiling, which eventually gave way and fell onto four people. The victims were taken to a hospital and were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Concord Music Hall has reportedly shut down pending an investigation. Read more
