Kraftwerk was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 56th annual Grammy Awards this weekend. The band was honored at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception held January 25th (a day prior to the live televised ceremony) and Kraftwerk's Ralf Hütter was on hand to accept the golden gramophone on behalf of the band. During Hütter's acceptance speech, he reportedly quoted lyrics to "the Robots":
“We’re charging our battery.
And now we’re full of energy.
We’re functioning automatic.
And we are dancing mechanic
We are programmed just to do
Anything you want us to
We are the robots.
Thank you.”
Video of a portion of Hütter's acceptance speech is included in the Special Merit Awards Ceremony highlight reel posted here and check out pictures of Hütter snapped at the ceremony here and here.
