Chino Moreno from Deftones has never shied away from his love of classic alternative music - last year he revealed to Noisecreep that his favorite band is Depeche Mode - and over the years, Deftones have covered several old school songs like Depeche Mode's "Sweetest Perfection" and "To Have And To Hold," not to mention the Smiths' "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want," and Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur." Yesterday MTV Hive published an interview with Moreno and the topic of old school alternative was briefly discussed:
"For me, heavy music is something that came later in my life. I listened to a lot of British pop and New Wave [when I was younger]. I always connected with Depeche Mode and the Smiths. Then I got into heavier music over the years."
But the real shocker in yesterday's interview wasn't about Moreno...it was about ex-Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo being a fan of the Smiths! Moreno confirmed he caught Anselmo listening to the Smiths backstage in his dressing room once, which led to Anselmo professing his love for the band:
"It was like 1996. I was like, “You listen to the Smiths?” And he was like, “Yeah, I love the Smiths!”
