The Ivor Novello Awards, which honor excellence in songwriting, were handed out yesterday at a ceremony in London. Noel Gallagher received the award for Outstanding Song Collection and accepted the award from Ray Davies. Other winners included Marc Almond (best known for his work in Soft Cell) was presented the Ivors Inspiration Award, and DJ/producer Calvin Harris won the prestigious Songwriter of the Year award, marking a huge breakthrough for the electronic/EDM scene. Other winners included Alt J, Randy Newman, Emeli Sandé, and Gavin Rossdale.
