Ok, so it's not exactly new music from The The, but here's a cool project Matt Johnson worked on recently - Yellofier.  Yellofier is a new sampler/sound app created by Yello co-founder Boris Blank and Swedish music producer Håkan Lidbo.  With the app users record everyday sounds (a barking dog, ringing alarm clock, flushing toilet, or whatever else) and the sounds can be Yellofied (aka transformed by the app) into music.  Besides lending his voice to the tutorial/promo video for Yellofier, Matt Johnson is one of several musicians who created songs and sounds specifically for the free app, which was released for iPhone, iTouch, and iPad at the beginning of April. Check out the promo video narrated by Johnson below:

Yellofier partnered with Electronic Beats for a song competition: experiment and create a new song with Yellofier or remix previously recorded songs/sounds (ones that come with the app from Matt Johnson, Carl Craig, Trentemøller, the Orb, Orbital, and more) and submit your creation. The grand prize winner scores a flight to Zurich, Germany to hang out and Yellofy the city with Boris Blank!  The competition runs through June 1st - visit Electronic Beats or the official Yellofier site to find out more about the contest, and check out some of the songs that have already been submitted.

To hear the sounds/songs created by Johnson and others for the app, download Yellofier here .
Beady Eye debuted, "Second Bite Of The Apple," the first single from their forthcoming album today.  The band revealed in an interview with BBC 1's Zane Lowe that the song was the last track they recorded during the album sessions and they decided to do something a little different and "weird" with the drums.  Stream "Second Bite Of The Apple" and the single's b-side, "Dreaming Of Some Space" below.  Be from Beady Eye arrives June 10th and is available to pre-order in the U.K. and Europe now.  Pre-order info/links for the North American release are expected shortly.

FYI - the b-side "Dreaming Of Some Space" may sound backwards, but that's the way Beady Eye released it. Take a listen:

If you wondered what the song sounds like when it's actually played backwards on vinyl, here's the "reversed" version:

Iggy & the Stooges return with their new album Ready To Die on April 30th (pre-order from iTunes, Amazon, or your favorite record store.) Ahead of the release, the legends performed a showcase at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City for NPR last night, and tonight they'll appear on the Colbert Report.  While you're waiting for tonight's Colbert appearance, enjoy some fan filmed video from yesterday's NYC gig below or just watch a replay of the WHOLE show right here.

Yesterday was Robert Smith's birthday and he gave Cure fans at last night's show held in Mexico City the best present ever - Smith and the band performed a 51 song show that lasted over FOUR hours! The Cure performed an amazing 26 song set, then returned for four more encores (25 more songs total!) at the show, which took place at Foto Sol in Mexico City. Take a look at the amazing setlist below via The Cure Mexico plus check out some fan filmed video.

Inspiral Carpets released a single "Fix Your Smile" on OGenesis Records for Record Store Day in the U.K.  If you like previous Inspiral Carpets albums you'll likely dig the new track - it's got the famous Hammond organ and driving sound that made the Carpets famous.  The vocals may sound a bit different - Clint Boon left the band and original member/vocalist Tom Hingley is back - but the track is a definite groove.  Check out the official video for "Fix Your Smile" and don't go stuffing money in your mouth.

According to director Shane Meadows, though the film is a "warts and all" look at the reunion, he opted not to include the band's brief fallout in Amsterdam. Meadows revealed in an interview with Channel Four News, that he made the crew stop filming and they left the band alone to sort out their issues. Meadows said "certain things are private" and he wasn't there to film an expose. Check out the interview with Meadows below:

Front Line Assembly return with a new electronic album, Echogenetic, in July.  According to the band, the new album is finished and was turned into their label, Metropolis Records, last week.  The 11 tracks on the album were recorded without guitars, so this will be an electronic record, not an industrial one.  An official release date and press release should be issued soon, but expect the record out sometime in July.  The intriguing cover art (posted above) was created by Troy Sobotka

UPDATE (4/17 @ 1pm): Metropolis Records announced Echogenetic will be released on July 9th, and they confirm the album is guitar free.  According to the press release, a couple of songs on the album "push past the boundaries between modern electronica and and electro-industrial" and overall the album shows Front Line Assembly to be in top form.  Sounds pretty exciting!  Pre-order the album here

So far a full scale Front Line Assembly tour in support of Echogenetic hasn't been announced, though a few European dates have trickled in and are posted below.

8/15 - Prague @ Lucerna Music Bar
8/21 - London @ The Garage

Beady Eye are preparing to release the follow up to 2011's Different Gear Still Speeding this June, and the first taste of the Dave Sitek produced album is by way of a song titled "Flick of the Finger." As it turns out the track is a revamped demo Liam Gallagher wrote for Oasis in 2004 (originally titled "Velvet Morning").  The song was recently given new lyrics, retitled, and chosen as the lead track from Beady Eye's forthcoming album Be.

Today Beady Eye premiered the video for "Flick of the Finger" and interestingly enough the entire clip is footage of a shark attacking a group of - you guessed it - birds that are High Flying.  Sly, that Liam!

As it turns out, there are even more Noel Gallagher digs coming from the Beady Eye camp. Liam Gallagher revealed another song on Be is titled "Don't Brother Me." Take one guess who that song is about?  Liam even confirmed it in a feature interview with Shortlist:

"Yeah, yeah, people will pick up on it, but I’m ready to go there. So yeah: it’s about Our Kid...I could’ve tried to call it to something else, but that’s what it is. And that is it. It’s a lovely f*cking song."

Read the full feature article with Beady Eye here. Beady Eye return with the full length new album Be on June 4th.
The documentary Victoria Wood's Nice Cup of Tea, aired on the BBC on Thursday night. The special included a brief interview with Morrissey, which was taped a few months ago at his pad in New York City. Ms. Wood didn't show up to Mozzer's home empty handed - she brought along a tea cosy her friend Norah knitted for the occasion. As it turned out, once she arrived and saw Morrissey's fancy tea kettle she decided not to give him the cosy and instead tried to hide it.  Watch all the drama unfold during the interview clip with Wood and Morrissey below (via the awesome Roberto Ferdenzi):

For more on Victoria Wood's Nice Cup of Tea read the Guardian's review here.
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult's classic "Kooler Than Jesus" has been updated/remixed for 2013.  Sleazebox released the new version, titled "Kooler Than Jesus DJ Toxic Rainbow 2013 Remix," earlier this week and is available digitally through iTunes, Amazon, and other digital outlets.

The original version of "Kooler Than Jesus" was released in 1990 through Wax Trax! and is out of print, though some new and used copies are available online.

Sleazebox also announced the release of a new single from Darling Kandie titled "Hello Alone" which features Groovie Mann from MLWTTKK.  Grab the single from iTunes or Amazon
The Three O'Clock are going to be playing Coachella this weekend, and last night as a warm up they appeared on Conan for a live performance of their song "With A Cantaloupe Girlfriend." Take a look at the performance below:

It gets even better for Three O'Clock fans - Omnivore Recordings announced a new collection The Hidden World Revealed, covering the band's creative output from 1981-1986. The set includes 20 tracks total - ten of the tracks are previously unreleased, the other songs are a mix of hits, demos, and alternate mixes. The Hidden World Revealed drops June 25th.

New Order are heading to North America later this week for a handful of live dates including both weekends at Coachella.  As part of their tour schedule they've lined up an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel April 16th, so set the DVR accordingly!

New Order last played Jimmy Kimmel on April 28th 2005 - one day after the release of their album Waiting For The Sirens Call.  They performed "Krafty" then came back on at the very end of the show to play a cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Video of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is posted below and the performance of "Krafty" is available here.

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" (the network cut the song off at the end - be prepared)

FYI, Coachella released the festival's webcast schedule earlier today and New Order's set is scheduled to stream April 14th at 2:45 am ET (Saturday night/Sunday morning).
Ian McCulloch returns with the two disc set Holy Ghosts this month. The first disc in the set is titled Orchestral Workings Live at Union Chapel - the fifteen tracks included on the disc are taken from McCulloch's 2012 show at Union Chapel and feature his smooth vocal stylings and guitar backed by a full orchestra (super-producer Youth later was enlisted to mix and produce the recordings for the release).  The second disc, Pro Patria Mori, includes 10 brand new songs McCulloch wrote and recorded last year.

Holy Ghosts will be released April 15th as a digital album download, and will be available as an import cd on April 23rd. Pre-order the album through iTunes, Amazon, or your favorite record store. New Order were in Lima, Peru recently and prior to their April 5th show at Explanada Estadio Monumental they held a press conference with local reporters.  Check out the press conference below:

During New Order's April 5th show they debuted "I'll Stay With You," from their newly released b-sides album Lost Sirens. Take at look at video of the performance below.

New Order also played a show at Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogota on April 7th. The Killers were also playing the same festival, so New Order invited Brandon Flowers onstage to play a couple of songs together - Flowers sang along with Bernard Sumner on "Crystal" and later came back to for the Joy Division cover "Shadowplay."

Here's a clip of Brandon Flowers onstage with New Order (sound quality poor, but good video)

New Order head to Indio, California for Coachella this weekend.
A Depeche Mode showcase is scheduled to take place in Vienna on April 10th and the event will stream live on the net starting around 9pm ET through Fan4Fan.  No word yet on whether this stream will be geo-blocked, so keep your fingers crossed.

In the meantime, watch Depeche Mode's recent appearance (interview and performance) from the Jonathan Ross show below:

OMD return with the new album English Electric this week - it's out today in the U.K. and arrives in North America tomorrow. Today OMD celebrates the release of the new album with a live streaming session in Portland's Bing Lounge at 3pm ET (12 noon PT) and is expected to include an interview segment and live performance. The stream can be accessed here.

Meanwhile, OMD premiered the third and final video in the animated trilogy directed Henning M. Lederer. Take a look at "Please Remain Seated" below:

FYI the other two Lederer directed videos in the trilogy are "Decimal" and "Atomic Ranch."  All three videos are included on the bonus DVD that comes with the deluxe version of English Electric.

One of the highlights of English Electric is the reworked version of "Kissing The Machine," the track Andy McCluskey originally recorded with Elektric Music (Karl Bartos/Kraftwerk side project) in 1993.  Take a listen to the new OMD version and the original below:

OMD "Kissing The Machine" (2013)

The original version is superior in my opinion, but it's cool to hear a new, updated version of the track.

Stream OMD's brilliant new album, English Electric, over at Pitchfork through tomorrow. Buy the album through the OMD store, iTunes, Amazon, or your favorite record store.

The Cure are currently on tour in South America and according to fan reports, the band were involved in some drama in Brazil before flying into Paraguay last night.  The Cure flew into the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asunción via private jet, and some time prior they were allegedly robbed nearby on the street in Sao Paulo. Details on the incident are sketchy but a few fan tweets are posted below.

UPDATE (7:20 pm): A few hours ago the Cure held a press conference in Paraguay to help promote their April 9th show in Asunción.  During the event, they were asked about the incident in Sao Paulo, and though they didn't share too many details, Robert Smith revealed he and Reeves Gabrels weren't involved in the "colorful incident" because they had traveled separately.  Simon Gallup, Roger O'Donnell, and Jason Cooper were involved, but according to the band, it wasn't an assault:

"We weren't assaulted...there was an attempt to steal from us but it didn't change our opinion or love for Brazil"

Check out the comments made at the press conference below:

Pictures of the Cure's safe arrival to Paraguay and a short news article on the upcoming April 9th show is posted here and translated version here.  The Cure have the night off to rest/recuperate, but perform at Jockey Club in Asunción tomorrow evening.

Translation: "The guard # theCure says a band member was assaulted in Sao Paulo by motochorros. They prefer not to go out for Asuncion: ("

Translation: "new information: it was in the airport. The robbery in the street some guys got off the bike and points"

*there's another setlist floating around with 47 songs. However, it was compiled before the show and included songs some fans projected would be performed (based on shows from last year). As it turned out, several songs from the anticipated list were not played.
Weekend finally return with a new album Jinx on July 23rd. The dark/fuzz/noise loving band last released music in 2011, but they've been busy (they recently moved from San Francisco to Brooklyn and wrote a new album).  So far it appears it's been worth the wait for new music - check out their new single "Mirror" below:

Sadly, Weekend may have flown under your radar - they're often mistaken for The Weeknd and sometimes even Vampire Weekend (only because of the 'weekend' part - they sound NOTHING like either of those artists). If you haven't heard Weekend before, remedy that immediately!  I'd highly recommend checking out the 2010 album Sports. Stream a couple of tracks from Sports below, including the epic video for "Monday Morning/Monongah, WV"

A Wax Trax! documentary chronicling the rise and fall of the legendary Chicago label has been in the works for over a year, and though a release date hasn't yet been announced, the trailer for the film is going to premiere later this month at two events being held in Chicago.  Both trailer screenings take place at the CIMM fest (Chicago International Movies & Music Festival) happening April 18th through the 21st.  The trailer first premieres at the Regressive Films screening of Sacrificial Youth April 19th at Logan Theater 3, then will be shown at the Wax Trax! Soiree Musicale, hosted by Julia Nash (daughter of the label's co-founder Jim Nash).  The Soiree (which is FREE, by the way) also features appearances by Chris Connelly, Ken Waagner, Reid Hyams, and Sean Joyce, and takes place April 21st at the Logan Theater Lounge.

The full Wax Trax! documentary sounds fantastic - according to a posting on the official site, the film includes interviews with artists who appeared on the label, Wax Trax! store employees, and features home video footage and never before seen images from the Wax Trax! vault.

For more on other goings on in the Wax Trax! world, read the full news update posted here.
