Wire return with the new record Change Becomes Us on March 25th. The album is made up of song ideas/sketches/undeveloped ideas that were originally created in 1979 - 1980 and were finished in the spring of 2012. Upon entering the studio, the band's intention wasn't to re-record old ideas, but instead to take the sketches and make up entirely new songs, or give the old songs a new, modern life. For instance, "Love Bends," adapted from the song "Piano Tuner (Keep Strumming Those Guitars)," appeared on Wire's live album Document & Eyewitness in 1981. Bassist Graham Lewis, said of the song, "it had to be turned into something else because it only had one bit."
The result is a pretty cool sounding Wire record. Stream all 13 tracks from Change Becomes Us below. The album is available to pre-order through Wire's official store (some bundles include the book Read & Burn: A Book About Wire. The book is not an official Wire biography, but is a "warts and all" exploration of Wire's history and includes commentary from band members and other key players). Change Becomes Us is also available to pre-order through Amazon, iTunes, or your favorite record store.
FYI, Stereogum is still offering a free download of the track "Love Bends" here.
