The new album from David Bowie, The Next Day, is streaming in full on iTunes! Take a listen to it here. Earlier this week Bowie premiered the short film for his new single, "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" which is also posted below for your enjoyment:

Though it's not the North American tour announcement Depeche Mode fans have been waiting for, some exciting news was announced today! Depeche Mode kick off Live on Letterman's 2013 series with a live webcast from New York's Ed Sullivan Theater on March 11th. The hour long concert streams live starting at 8pm ET on the Live on Letterman site, Vevo, and in New York's Times Square!  The concert is expected to include the live debut of tracks from the forthcoming album Delta Machine, along with classics from their catalog.  After the live event is over, the webcast will be available for on demand viewing, plus Depeche Mode are scheduled to appear later that night on the Letterman show on CBS. The trailer for the Live on Letterman webcast is posted here.

Depeche Mode are expected to announce dates for their North American tour very soon. Dave Gahan said in a recent interview that the U.S. live dates will begin on the west coast, and will likely kick off near the end of the summer.

Depeche Mode return with their 13th studio album Delta Machine on March 26th.
U2's album War celebrates its 30th anniversary today!  War, U2's politically charged and critically acclaimed album, was released on February 28th, 1983.  This was the record that helped launch U2 into superstar territory thanks in part to MTV, who aired several videos from the album.  War was U2's first commercial success with four singles ("New Year's Day," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Two Hearts Beat As One," and "Surrender") landing in Billboard's Rock chart, and one ("New Year's Day") charting on Billboard's Hot 100.  The cover art features Peter Rowan (Bono's brother's friend, and now a noted photographer), who appeared in the music video for "Two Hearts Beat As One," and was also featured on other U2 releases, including the band's previous album Boy.

Iggy Pop confirmed a new Iggy & the Stooges album, Ready To Die, will be released on April 30th. James Williamson has returned to the Stooges, which gives fans even more reason to be excited about the release!

Iggy also filmed a couple of short videos for Ready To Die - one of the videos is a trailer for the record, and the other is a short interview with Iggy, who took the opportunity to slam Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins:

"...A real fucking group when they're an older group, they also make fucking records, they don't just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of fucking money...it's not the fucking Smashing Pumpkins we've got the bald guy and whoever...the Stooges are a real group..."

So far no comment from Billy Corgan, but you know it's only a matter of time. At any rate, watch both videos from Iggy and the Stooges below:

A new Morrissey interview was published yesterday and it's a great read, not just because it's a Moz interview, but because the piece is for teen site, The Rookie. Morrissey answered questions on arts, politics, teenage years, and even got in a few barbs in on pop music (also named Justin Bieber, Beyonce) and the Grammys.  He also was asked about huggers who attempt to jump on stage or get close to him at his live shows:

"In recent years I saw McDonna live, and no audience member reached up toward her to try to touch her. I see this so often with artists whom we’re told are global stars. It is a big lie. Or else, you might possibly be a big star, but you are not loved. My audience has an urgent need to touch, to shake hands, to move out of their seats, to defy so-called security, to make physical contact. They don’t simply sit and observe, but feel the urge to act. It’s a great compliment for me, and one that most Grammy winners could probably never imagine."

Yes, he called Madonna "McDonna."  Read the full interview, This Charming Man: An Interview With Morrissey here.

Earlier in the week, Morrissey announced rescheduled dates for his North American tour. The itinerary includes a few brand new dates, including a Detroit area stop at the Whiting Auditorium in Flint on April 8th. Tickets for the Flint show go on sale this Friday at 10am. The Call announced they'll be reuniting for two shows in April. The shows are their first in twenty years and feature original members Scott Musick, Tom Ferrier, and Jim Goodwin. It probably won't be a huge surprise that Robert Been (from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) is stepping in to sing vocals as a tribute to his dad (and original vocalist) Michael Been.  Fans of both bands have likely heard BRMC's recent cover of the Call's 1989 hit, "Let The Day Begin." (For those who haven't heard the cover, stream it below and download it for free here.)

The live dates for the Call with Robert Been are listed below. For more info on the shows visit the Call on their official site.

Johnny Marr returns today with his debut solo album The Messenger. Marr has been doing a lot of press to promote the album, and several interviews have been published over the past couple of weeks. An excellent video interview with Marr was recently uploaded - the interview was conducted by music journalist John Dolan for Noisey's series The British Masters. Dolan's interview is enjoyable to watch because he's old school, knows his music history, and perfectly balances being a big fan with not letting it get in the way of the interview.

Dig in to the awesome interview below - Marr told some great stories (especially the one about when the Smiths went to see Van Halen!) and Dolan got in a great question near the end about when fans can expect a Matt Johnson/Johnny Marr reunion, plus got Marr to reveal his favorite Smiths' song is "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me."

Two other interviews from Noisey's series The British Masters are posted below - watch an interview with Bryan Ferry and Gary Numan.

In more Morrissey news, tomorrow's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live has been canceled after Moz learned he'd be on the same night at duck hunters.  The official statement from True To You:

"Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.

Morrissey stated, "As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away."

Today Trent Reznor shared some exciting news about Nine Inch Nails - NIN will be hitting the road for live dates later this year.  According to Reznor's statement, NIN are playing some initial dates this summer, which will be followed by an arena tour of the U.S. in the fall.  Reznor also confirmed his new touring lineup, which includes Adrian Belew, Eric Avery*, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, and Ilan Rubin.  Details and dates are expected to be announced shortly.  Read the full statement below (via Pitchfork).

"I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show.  Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

"The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me.  The first shows will begin this summer followed by a full on arena tour of the US this fall and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.

Lots of details and dates to come.  See you soon."

*Over the last couple of weeks Eric Avery has been debuting songs from his new solo album on bandcamp. The tracks are available as free downloads and are somewhat dark/NINish. Check 'em out here.

Yesterday on Time Warp, the Blue Stahli remix of "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys was featured.  As was mentioned on the show, the remix is available for free - stream and download the remix below or just grab it here.

Here's another free Blue Stahli track - it's a smooth and cool cover of the David Lynch track "Ghost Of Love" - stream and download below:

Over the past few years, Blue Stahli has created music for a massive amount of films and television shows (including Knight Rider!), plus he's released quite a few of his own albums.  Take a look at his latest bloodyriffic video for "ULTRAnumb" (shot recently in the Detroit area)

"ULTRAnumb" is taken from the self-titled 2011 album which is available here.

There's tons of other cool stuff in the Blue Stahli catalog - check out Antisleep Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Vol. 3 (the third volume is all instrumental, btw). If you don't know where to start, head over to Soundcloud, where you can stream a variety of tracks from all three albums, or click here for a whole bunch of other free downloads.

Inspiral Carpets are releasing a 7" vinyl single "Fix Your Smile" backed with "Save Me" for Record Store Day.  The songs were recorded near the end of last year in Manchester and will be available as a limited edition release via OGenesis* on April 20th.  It's unclear at this time whether any vinyl copies will be available for RSD in North America - so far the official release lists have not been published, but are expected shortly.  A digital (download) release is scheduled for May 4th.

For more on Record Store Day visit the U.S. site here, or the U.K. site here.

Meanwhile, check out a video with of all sorts of old school Manchestery goodness: Inspiral Carpets performing "I Want You" with Mark E. Smith (from the Fall) followed by Morrissey's "The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get" - both are from Top of the Pops in 1994!

Finally, here's a short documentary/interview on the Fall from 1994 (via Dangerous Minds)

Today is David Sylvian's 55th birthday.  Read a short interview with Sylvian published in the Wall Street Journal (from 2009*) and enjoy Sylvian's exquisite 1988 album Secrets of the Beehive below.  This is truly one of the best albums ever recorded.

*article retweeted out by WSJ's Jim Fusilli, who appears to be the only music journo/critic to have remembered Sylvian's big day.

Morrissey has been on fire with posts recently on his official site True To You. Yesterday's entry was about Mozzer's recent encounter with Kirk Douglas - apparently Morrissey was taking a walk around Los Angeles and found himself "walking alongside" Douglas.  From the sounds of it, words were not exchanged:

"I suddenly felt like the fat half of a pair of bow-legged twins. I froze, my eyes welled-up, my feet sank into imaginary mud. Only Kirk Douglas could reduce me to such an irrational fear of breathing, but here it was. It was one of those very silly moments where we act on the second instinct whilst ignoring the first instinct, and of course, the second instinct always warns us to "do nothing." Too incurably demented to tap his shoulder and pledge eternal thanks and servitude, I stood and I watched as my hero walked away."

And this was the awesome end to his post:

"If male desire is tension, then Kirk Douglas had this more than any other screen star - yes, King Kong included. Last night I went to bed exhausted. But I couldn't sleep."

Meanwhile a few rescheduled Morrissey dates are starting to surface - newly rescheduled dates for shows in Texas (El Paso and Pharr), Chicago, Atlanta, and Minneapolis, and a new date in Upper Derby, Pennsylvania have appeared on Ticketmaster. There's also sad news for fans who held tickets to the February 24th show in San Francisco - the show has been canceled. An updated itinerary is posted below.

Morrissey is set to make his live return this week with a February 26th performance on Jimmy Kimmel, and the tour kicks off the next night in San Diego.

Johnny Marr is preparing to release his debut solo album the Messenger - the album drops worldwide on February 25th and in North America on February 26th.  The album is streaming in full online - fans in the U.S. can stream it via Rolling Stone and it's available in the U.K. via the Guardian (the Guardian stream is no longer available in the U.S.)

Last week, Marr was interviewed on the BBC - one of the interesting parts of the interview comes at the beginning when Marr revealed he was inspired to start singing after the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde called him "a chicken" for not singing.  Marr also told a story about Bernard Sumner being inspired by Kraftwerk, and how Sumner got some electro tips from Karl Bartos when they were on tour together in Dusseldorf.  Near the end of the interview Marr discussed being a front man and gave praise to Morrissey, calling him "super brave."

Radiohead's debut album Pablo Honey was released 20 years ago today. The album is generally not considered one of Radiohead's finest moments by critics, but it arguably has some fantastic songs and helped pave the way for Radiohead's world domination.

Take a look at an early Radiohead performance filmed at the beginning of the touring cycle for Pablo Honey.  The concert below was filmed at the Metro in Chicago on June 30th 1993 and includes some interview footage with Thom Yorke at the end:

Here's some more Radiohead live footage - the following series of videos are from a concert filmed April 3rd, 1995 - only a few weeks after the release of the band's second album the Bends and is one of the first live performances of their "new" songs in the U.S.

"Fake Plastic Trees"

"Street Spirit"

"My Iron Lung"

Note Yorke's comments before playing "Creep"- the band were clearly tired of playing "the hit" at that point...

Last night Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds performed a show at the Fonda in Hollywood.  The concert streamed live on the net last night but for fans who missed it, fans can watch it below, along with a stream of audio from Cave's recent concert in Berlin which was broadcast on German radio earlier this month.  Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds released the new album Push the Sky Away earlier this week - a deluxe box set version is also available to purchase here (ships in April).

As widely reported, Lanegan is featured on three newly finished tracks on Mad Season's reissue of Above, plus he'll also be on the forthcoming Queens of the Stone Age album. The two recorded a full length album titled Black Pudding - the album was mixed by Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age - which will be released May 13th through Heavenly Recordings. Details on the album's first single will be announced soon, but for now stream an album track titled "Pentecostal" below.

Morrissey made good on his "you may see me out and about next week..." statement that he made on Saturday.  Last night he attended the LA Galaxy game in Los Angeles and met footballer Robbie Keane afterwards.  Moz even posted photographic proof and ended his commentary with, "Robbie, the pleasure, the privilege, is mine."  Take a look at the picture here.

Morrissey resumes his North American tour next week in San Diego on February 27th.  The night before, February 26th, Morrissey is scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live

The Brit Awards took place earlier tonight in London - the biggest news of the night wasn't about the winners, it was about Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn:

As it turned out, Albarn was on hand to present an award to the charity War Child, and War Child's director of fundraising, Ben Knowles invited both Albarn and Gallagher to sit at his table. According to XFM, Knowles revealed he had always wanted to get the two together:

"It's been really nice to have Noel Gallagher and Damon on our table together this evening! When we put together the first album Help back 1995, it was very much an ambition of War Child to not only help children in conflict but to bring together Blur and Oasis on one album."

Gallagher and Albarn are scheduled to perform at the benefit for Teenage Cancer Trust March 23rd London's Royal Albert Hall. Albarn is performing with Blur's Graham Coxon, and Gallagher closes out the show as the evening's headliner. It seems highly likely at this point that the three will share the stage together for at least a couple of songs, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Stay tuned!

As for the Brit Awards, take a look at the list of winners below, plus watch two Brit Award interviews with Dave Grohl (he was on hand to accept the Black Keys' award on their behalf) and an interview with Muse, who performed "Supremacy" live.

Ian Brown from the Stone Roses was born on February 20th - take a look at some video of the Stone Roses and Brown in action!

The first video is Brown's appearance on the docu-art series Brush With Fame, where he was captured sitting for a portrait by John Myatt (an artist who had his own brush of fame after being arrested and convicted for art fraud in the 90s). During the episode, Myatt painted a portrait of Brown, and while doing so, he interviewed Brown and discussed the history of the Stone Roses.

The Killers performed make-up dates in Manchester on February 17th and 18th at Manchester Arena (the shows had originally been scheduled for last November, but Brandon Flowers developed laryngitis and couldn't perform). During both shows the Killers paid tribute to Manchester Musical Royalty - during the February 17th show the Killers played a cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" and the Smiths' classic "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out," and during last night's show they performed a cover of Oasis' "Don't Look Back In Anger," plus they invited Bernard Sumner from New Order onstage to perform the song "Crystal." Before Sumner came on stage, Flowers introduced Sumner and explained to the crowd that the Killers named themselves after watching New Order's video for "Crystal" (the drum kit in the video has "the Killers" displayed on it).

Take a look at fan filmed video below, including Flowers' awesome Bernard Sumner intro ("the sheriff of Manchester"):

"Don't Look Back In Anger" (February 18th)

"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" (February 17th)

"Shadowplay" (February 17th)

FYI, this isn't the first time Bernard Sumner and Brandon Flowers performed "Crystal" together - New Order invited Flowers onstage to perform "Crystal" at T in the Park in 2005 (in happier, Hookier times)

The first track, "Come On Outside" is rumored to have been recorded by Oasis (minus Liam, who was busy getting married at the time) in winter 2008. The second demo, "Just Let It Come Down Over Me" was likely recorded during Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' sessions. Stream both tracks below (before they get pulled):

New York artist Derrick Cruz recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for a piece of art he created as a tribute to Ian Curtis.  The sculpture*, Digital 18:05:80, is a minimalist cold cast porcelain block of Curtis' face and according to Cruz, was intended to "pay homage to the monolithic impact of the late Ian Curtis." The sculpture itself is complete, but Cruz needs financial backing for the casting and supplies. Take a look at the sculpture in the short video below:

The pledge goal for Digital 18:05:80 has been met, which means the project will be fully funded on March 2nd, but anyone interested in contributing can still take advantage of the pledge incentives here.  I'd recommend clicking over to check it out, if for no other reason than to read Cruz's commentary 'Buses, Malls, & Intercoms or How I Found Joy Division,' which tells the story of how Cruz discovered Joy Division and Unknown Pleasures after getting into New Order (first introduction to either band was through a random purchase of NO's Substance on vinyl.)  Those interested can check out Cruz's other designs/art by visiting his website.

*the sculpture's title, Digital 18:05:80, comes from the Joy Division song "Digital" and date of Curtis' death - May 18th, 1980.
Morrissey postponed three more shows on his ill-fated North American tour which is now scheduled to resume February 27th in San Diego (though his live return will be the night before, February 26th, on Jimmy Kimmel). According to his official statement posted on True To You, Mozzer spent the last three weeks in a Los Angeles hospital where he was treated for anemia secondary to bleeding ulcers and Barrett's Esophagus.  He reveals he was recently discharged and warned fans that he may be seen "out and about this week in the Hollywood area." Apparently he's already been out and about, because according to a fan posting on a Morrissey fansite forum, he was spotted last night outside Soundgarden's show in Los Angeles at the Wiltern (with pics to prove it!

Detroit fans should also take heart, because as part of today's statement, Morrissey once again made reference to Flint, which combined with his previous comments about the city, seem to point to a high likelihood of a new show being announced shortly.  Though the January 24th show in Flint has officially been canceled (not postponed) it seems likely a new show will be added, so stay tuned. In the meantime, read Mozzer's full statement below along with the latest tour itinerary:

(statement broken up into paragraphs for ease of reading)

"I am terribly sorry that the next three shows have been moved back. The worst is for the best. I am certainly on the road to recovery, but caution and prevention demand further IV blood work lest I keel over and die before your very eyes. I apologize to an almost annoying degree for any trouble I've caused to anyone by way of travel plans and dog-sitters and ticket-outlay and re-molded hairstyles. I should be as fit as a ferret for San Diego. Please don't be too appalled if you see me out and about this week in the Hollywood area. Perversely, it's all in accordance with doctor's orders: to have myself re-integrated with the call of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd; the flash of light and the full thrust of mosh-pit sound. Illness turns the body into a complete stranger, and I'll be testing the capabilities of my strides at the most unlikely music shows this week.

The will to get on with it runs strong. Even death can be used as a springboard. For those scholars who are heatedly curious, my ulcer is now under reins, even if neither asleep nor dead, but the continued cause for concern is a slightly embarrassing absence of blood – most of which the bleeding ulcer relieved me of. Anemia sets its own terms with quite obvious biological conclusions, and I have spent these last weeks under expert medical care in Los Angeles with an almost erotic dependency on various IV drips. Sitting around reading indecent books is no substitute for continuing the tour, but my progress holds great promise and Flint shall not escape quite so lightly. We are all at the mercy of biological chance, and I once again beg for your liberal tolerance. If you bump into me this week at a heavy rock show, please understand that I'm lowering myself into the cut and thrust after weeks on ice - horizontal, with sockets empty of eyes.

In the midst of the abyss, I'm saved by the news that tickets for the tour continue to sell very well, and my straightjacket twitches with excited gratitude. But the patient must be patient. Our goal, now, is San Diego, by which time my blood-work shall have finally taken its course and I shall be shot from a cannon and might even be equipped with an extra eye. We just never know, do we? Being on life's danger list, I've found, actually prevents you from thinking about how you are, and there's a bread-like warmth in giving in to whatever was meant for you and whatever wasn't. The only critical mistake might be to confuse your pre-med with creativity - which is certainly worth the confusion if it renders you not fully present in your own life.

Finally, I gorge myself on thanks for the many and varied messages of support that I've received over these recent four weeks. They have yanked me out of prolonged mood dips and cured a crisis of spirits. I fully realize that the word 'cancellation' in every known dictionary is followed by my own name, but no morale drops as low as my own at the mere suggestion of re-jigging shows. I sincerely ask for your pardon and your understanding. As for those of you who claim to now be officially sick to death of me - if this is really true, then why exactly are you reading this? As a matter of fact, I am even prepared to humble myself to nothing before those who carp; you see, any hospital-stay leaves us in danger of becoming unnecessarily agreeable. Life will right itself.

Whatever happens, I love you."

NME recently announced Johnny Marr will be the recipient of this year's Godlike Genius award which take place February 27th (and only two days after the U.K. release of Marr's debut solo album the Messenger). As a tribute to the Marr, NME posted a fantastic photo feature 'Johnny Marr - The Making of a Godlike Genius' with tons of photos of Marr's career -- from his early days with the Smiths all the way through his most recent musical projects. Take a look at the photos feature here.

Marr is also featured in the latest video entry for NME's series Song Stories - discussing how he wrote the Smiths' classic, "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now." Johnny tells the story of how a new guitar helped him to write the classic song.  Awesome moment: before strumming the riff for the song he warns everyone, "haven't played it after 25 years, so if I screw it up...you try playing it after 25 years!" Radiohead's Colin Greenwood was on the BBC earlier today to discuss World Radio Day, and during the interview he revealed that Radiohead plans to begin work on a new album near the end of the summer:

Meanwhile, a candid interview with Thom Yorke was published in this month's issue of Dazed Digital. Yorke talked about music, writing, fame, aging, and Radiohead's music videos (in particular, "Lotus Flower" and "Karma Police," the latter of which is Yorke's favorite because he was, "totally wasted in it."). Read the feature here.

Amok, the debut album from Yorke's side project Atoms For Peace, drops on February 26th (order here).  The full album is scheduled to stream ahead of its release on BBC Radio 6 on February 18th.  An article on the making of the artwork/packaging of the album is posted here.
