The songs were newly recorded by Westerberg & Stinson except "Radio Hook Word Hit," which was recorded by Chris Mars separately - Mars did not take part in the recording session with his ex-bandmates.

Songs For Slim by the Replacements is the first in a series of benefit albums for Dunlap. Other artists including Frank Black, Peter Buck, Jakob Dylan, John Doe, Lucinda Williams, and many others are preparing to release music as part of a Songs For Slim series. Other releases in the series will be handled similarly - the initial pressings will be auctioned off on Ebay, then digital and commercial vinyl versions will be released. So far, two other auctions have been scheduled: a Steve Earle/Craig Finn split single is scheduled for a February 15th auction and Lucinda Williams/Tommy Keene release will follow on March 15th.
