When My Bloody Valentine re-issued their back catalog earlier this year, mastermind Kevin Shields revealed he had been working on new music and it would be out before the end of the year. Well, it's getting pretty close to the end of the year, so NME hit up Shields for a progress report. Turns out the new album WILL be out before the end of the year! Shields told NME the following about the sound of the new material:
"I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than 'Loveless'. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary."
Shields did not offer up an actual release date or a title for the new album, but he did claim it'll be out before the "end of the year" and will be released through his website. According to the NME report, another ep of new material will follow the full album release! The full interview with Shields is available in the latest print and digital issue of NME.
Fans who haven't checked out the My Bloody Valentine reissues from earlier this year can grab them here: EP's 1988-1991, Isn't Anything, Loveless.
