Last week Depeche Mode held a press conference to announce the European leg of their 2013 world tour. A few weeks before the official press conference Dave Gahan was interviewed by Consequence Of Sound about the upcoming Depeche Mode album as well as his work on the latest Soulsavers album The Light The Dead See. As for the Depeche Mode portion of the interview, Gahan pretty much said what was revealed in last week's press conference - the album isn't finished, they've got about 20 songs, they're working with Anton Corbijn, etc.  Gahan did however, have a few more words to say about the rumors that Alan Wilder is back in the fold:

"I can say they are absolutely not true. I wish him all the best. It was great [having] him hanging out with us for a couple of days and playing with us at the Albert Hall. It was really a lot of fun and sort of a magical night...He was a real part of the puzzle and still remains on all that stuff that he worked on with us. Alan was really very, very instrumental in leading us in different directions."

In more PiL news, John Lydon was recently scheduled to be interviewed by Iowa station KRUU, however a fake Lydon was the one who called in for the interview! Turns out the imposter was comedian Doug Stanhope. Read how it all went down and stream the interview (that aired!) below. Hard to believe KRUU was duped since Lydon has such a distinctive voice. Peter Gabriel was interview at the Google studios recently to talk about his Back To Front tour. Watch the full session which includes some questions from fans below:

Meanwhile, Peter Gabriel has asked fans to recreate his classic "Sledgehammer" video. Details on that are posted here.
Noel Gallagher released his first solo DVD, International Magic Live at the O2 last week.  Gallagher has done a few interviews to promote the release and in a new interview with RTE he confirmed the second solo album recorded with Amorphous Androgynous has been scrapped because "it didn't sound great," and revealed he'll play fewer Oasis songs on his next world tour.  Of course the subject of Beady Eye came up and Noel had a few nice things to say. Sort of:

"I think their album is pretty good to be honest. They're fantastic musicians...I think they've done alright but it's evident that I'm the one who wrote all the singles in Oasis before we split so it's evident that somebody in that group has got to step up and write some singles. But it's good for a first album. it's not as good as my first album though."

Gallagher also talked about the recent Stone Roses' reunion and reported that from what he's observed (he played a lot of the same festivals with them this summer), he's never seen them so happy.

Read the full interview with Noel Gallagher here.  Gallagher's DVD International Magic Live at the O2 is out now.

Johnny Marr has revealed his new solo album is finished and will be released in February. The album will be preceded by a single, which is expected to drop in December. The new album was written in 2010 while on the road with The Cribs and was recorded in Manchester and Berlin to give the album a European feel.

Marr was in London yesterday for the Q Awards where he was named Q Hero. He accepted the award onstage and quipped, "If this is a reward for 25 years of stupid reunion questions, I'll take it. Thanks very much Q." After the awards Marr spoke with the British media and a few short interviews are posted below.

New Order are in North America playing gigs and doing interviews to promote their shows.  Yesterday Billboard published a new interview with Bernard Sumner, who talked about New Order's past/present/future and the departure of Peter Hook.  Sumner revealed that Hook's decision to play Joy Division's albums in full is what sparked New Order to play live again, claiming Hooky "opened the gateways of hell." Sumner was also asked to comment on Hooky's recent announcement that he'll perform classic New Order albums in England next year:

"I think it sucks, to be honest. We found out that he was touring (Joy Division's) "Unknown Pleasures" through the press. He didn't tell us, which we thought was pretty low. It just seems like a real commercial thing to do. He seems to be doing it for the money. To me, Joy Division and New Order were never about that. I thought it was disrespectful to the rest of us."

Sumner also revealed he's creatively ready to make another New Order album and said he's "hungry" for a new synth-based new album!  Read the full interview in Billboard here.

New Order just finished up a two-night stand in New York City at Roseland. Watch some video from the October 19th show below, and click over to Old Waver to check out video from last week's show in Dallas.

New Order wrap up their North American tour in Toronto with a pair of shows at Sony Centre on October 23rd and 24th.
Morrissey kicked off his North American tour a few weeks ago.  Last night the tour played Rapids Theater in Niagara Falls, and fans were in for QUITE a treat.  Moz dusted off the rarely performed Smiths' track "Sweet & Tender Hooligan," which is widely regarded (at least by me) to be one of the best songs ever.  A full video of the performance hasn't been uploaded yet, however a snippet courtesy of leafs1812 is posted below:

UPDATE: Full video posted below courtesy of midynyc!

A massive thank you to both leafs1812 & midynyc for uploading video!

Yesterday's performance of "Sweet & Tender Hooligan" is thought to be the first time Morrissey has played the song since 1988.  Here's audio from that 1988 performance at Wolverhampton Civic Hall:

Earlier this week the BBC aired a new documentary on Squeeze. Squeeze: Take Me I'm Yours examines the songwriting powerhouse of founding members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook and features interviews with ex-members Paul Carrack and Jools Holland. Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, and Mark Knopfler provide insight and commentary as well. Watch the full documenatary below:

Squeeze kick off a 22 date tour of the UK next month and will be playing classics as well as some new songs. Fans will be able to purchase live recordings immediately after utilizing a pop up shop. Squeeze are thrilled to market their music directly to fans as Glenn Tilbrook explained in an interview with Music Week:

"I love the opportunities and surprises thrown up by the digital age and the fading away of the major labels. Being able to innovate and take control of our own destiny is something I could only have dreamt of back then. So this Pop Up Shop tour is where we're at now... a combination of new songs and technology, of musicianship and experience that make this tour for Squeeze 'A Giant Step Forward'."

The fine folks over at Record Store Day posted a list of releases for Black Friday Record Store Day (November 23rd), and on the list is a cd release from Jellyfish called Stack-A-TracksStack-A-Tracks is a two-disc collection of instrumental and alternate mixes of the band's studio albums Bellybutton and Spilt Milk.  From the listing over at Vintage Vinyl:

"While recording their two studio albums, (1990's Bellybutton and 1993's Spilt Milk), "instrumental" mixes of each record were created by Jellyfish and their producers. Unheard and untouched for decades, these recordings will finally see the light on Omnivore Recordings' Jellyfish - Stack-a-Tracks.

Both albums, start to finish, as they've never been heard before. These versions of Bellybutton and Spilt Milk were created in the studio, at the time of their original recording/mixing. These are not "remixes" from the multi-tracks. To do that would have compromised the integrity of what was originally envision, potentially eliminating or dismissing elements that are actually there, yet not as audible under the vocals. This is not a "re-imagining" of what these records "might" sound like as instrumentals. They're the real deal, tranferred from the original 1/4" masters.

An individually numbered edition of 2,000, housed in a digipak for the limited first edition, with new illustrated artwork (created for the release), this 2-CD set is destined to become the newest gem in the collections of power-pop fans everywhere."
