If you like Joy Division, Echo + The Bunnymen, Chameleons, or Interpol, odds are you'll love Germany's Blue Angel Lounge. The band has been around since 2006 and they have two full length studio albums out to date. Last year's full release, Narcotica, was produced by none other than Anton Newcombe from Brian Jonestown Massacre. Newcombe is a huge fan of the band--besides producing their album, he invited them to open for BJM on their recent U.S. tour. Blue Angel Lounge accepted the invite (of course) and their set even featured Newcombe joining the band on stage for part of the show* (more on that below).
Blue Angel Lounge just released a four song ep called Ewig featuring the brilliant song "In Distance," which is one of my favorite songs right now. Watch the video for "In Distance" and buy the Ewig ep on iTunes or Amazon:

BJM were stellar musically, but the vocals were way too low. The opening band (Blue Angel Lounge) was better--everything they played sounded great. Newcome joined Blue Angel Lounge on stage halfway through their set, played some tambourine (off his boots!) and it was pretty incredible.
JV's review led to a major internet search to find out more about the band, and the subsequent purchase of both albums and new ep.
