A documentary about independent record shops in the U.K. is in the works. The hourlong documentary is based on the 2010 book, Last Shop Standing, by Graham Jones. The film tours record stores that have survived in this digital, instant gratification musical world, and examines just how they've managed to stay afloat. Johnny Marr, Norman Cook, Johnnie Walker, and other musicians and industry insiders have been interviewed for this project, which is still in the editing stage. Last Shop Standing was initially targeted for a Record Store Day release, but a summer release is now anticipated. The film will likely premiere at film festivals worldwide before landing on DVD.
