You never know what you might find on YouTube:

Check out audio of Ian McCulloch singing "Ceremony" with New Order at a 1986 gig in Manchester. Even though McCulloch messed up a few of the lyrics, it's pretty fantabulous* to say the least. It's essentially Joy Division, with Ian McCulloch on vocals instead of Ian Curtis.

I also stumbled upon McCulloch's cover of "Ring Of Fire" from 2006. McCulloch is a huge fan of Liverpool's football team and he got together with the Bootroom Allstars to record the Johnny Cash classic as an "anthem" for the team. And legend has it, Liverpool won the cup that year. Was it McCulloch's cover that did the trick??? OMG!

You want more covers? McCulloch recorded a couple of Leonard Cohen covers back in the early 90's. We played both of the following covers on 89X all the time when they were released:

"Lover Lover Lover" (from 1992's Mysterio)

"Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" (1991's I'm Your Fan)

These days, Mcculloch is busy working on a new solo cd in London. He's expected to release it in the first half of 2012.
